May was a gloomy month in terms of traffic, according to statistics from the Transport Agency.

Up until and including April, only 44 people had lost their lives in various forms of traffic accidents.

However, in May alone, 29 people died. A further 1,292 people were injured, of whom 172 were seriously hurt.

"We are seeing a similar trend to last year, when the number of fatalities in traffic also increased sharply in conjunction with the fine weather in May and June," says Staffan Berge, statistician at the Transport Agency, in a press release.
