Under the OS, it will be forbidden for French athletes to wear hijab.

Something that the human rights organisation Amnesty is strongly critical of.

"French sport goes against human rights", the organisation writes in a press release.

The IOC has previously established that there will be no rules stating that competitors cannot wear hijab.

But despite this, the French Olympic team has decided that it is forbidden.

Now, criticism is being raised against the decision from the human rights organisation Amnesty, which calls the ban racist.

"The ban breaks with the Olympic host's human rights strategy, which highlights inclusion, and not least breaks with several international human rights conventions", Amnesty writes in a press release.

Amnesty is also urging the International Olympic Committee, IOC, to try to get the ban lifted by contacting the French sports authority.

The decision was made last autumn, when the country's sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra announced the ban to the public. Since then, a large debate about the country's religious freedom and integration has arisen.

Amnesty notes that the ban is particularly noteworthy, since this summer's Olympic Games will be the first with equal participation from women and men.

The Olympic Games begin on 26 July.
