At least 20 civilians, including three children, have been injured in a Russian attack on a residential area in the city of Kharkiv in Ukraine, according to the region's governor Oleh Synjehubov.
Synjehubov writes on the messaging service Telegram that eight people are being treated in hospital, two with life-threatening injuries, after a Russian attack on two multi-story buildings in the city where people were sleeping late on Saturday.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said that Saturday's attack clearly shows why Ukrainian forces need to be able to use more of the weapons provided by Western allies for attacks deeper into Russian territory – something that has so far been denied.
We must strengthen our ability to better protect lives and security, said Zelenskyj.
