The municipality of Laholm is changing its stance and lifting the ban on Gårdschips marketing and selling parmesan chips, writes Göteborgs-Posten.

During a routine food control last week, it was discovered that the chip manufacturer had not reported selling products with the name parmesan, which now has a protected designation of origin within the EU. However, there is currently no system in place in the EU for reporting products of this type.

Since the business cannot comply with our decision, we have chosen to lift our decision, says the municipality's environmental manager Annica Hegefeldt.

After the municipality's initial decision to ban the sale of the chips, Gårdschips stated that they intended to continue selling bags labeled as parmesan chips, despite the municipality's threat of a fine of 5,000 kronor per bag.

Corrected: An earlier version contained errors regarding the EU's regulations.
