The man, who is in his 40s, has according to the indictment, among other things, submitted incorrect VAT information to the Tax Agency in order to avoid paying almost two million kronor in taxes between 2020 and 2022, according to the radio.
Together with a female partner, he was convicted last summer for exploiting Thai berry pickers in Västerbotten. According to the Lycksele District Court, the berry pickers were misled into believing they would receive the minimum wage according to Swedish collective agreements and work eight hours a day, five days a week.
Instead, according to the court, they had to work long days without leave and were paid per kilo, resulting in payment of between 18 and 29 percent of the contractual wage.
The verdict was appealed and the case is now being tried in the Court of Appeal.
