Canada has taken three straight wins in the Olympic Games football on the women's side, after tonight's 1–0 win over Colombia.

Due to a six-point deduction, they finished with three points, which still secured a second place in Group A and advancement to the quarterfinals.

The reigning Olympic champions were penalized after several members of the coaching staff spied on the training of their first opponent, New Zealand. Several coaches have since been sent home and suspended.

Even Brazil advances despite the loss to Spain. Brazil's big star Marta was also sent off.

In added time in the first half, Marta was high up with her leg, and her foot hit Spain's Olga Carmona in the head. The 38-year-old received a red card and left the pitch in tears.

The forward then had to watch as Spain scored both 1–0 and 2–0 in the second half, the latter on a clear added-time goal.

Marta has previously stated that she is doing her last year in the national team, which means that the Olympic Games in Paris are her last championship with Brazil. With the advancement, the icon still has a chance to represent her national team in a championship.

Australia, coached by the Swedish duo Tony Gustafsson and Jens Fjellström, lost their decisive match against the USA. They have thus done their part in the Olympic Games in Paris.
