After a series of heavy defeats, Gareth Southgate chose to leave the role as national team manager for England's men's football team.
The association began searching for his replacement in July and just over three months later, the replacement has been presented: Thomas Tuchel.
The 51-year-old German, who has coached Dortmund, Chelsea, Paris SG and was fired from Bayern München last year, will start his new job on January 1, 2025 – with sights set on the 2026 World Championship finals in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
"Getting the chance to represent England is a great privilege. The opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting", he says to the association's website.
Tuchel gets Anthony Barry as assistant national team manager.
Lee Carsley, who has been temporary national team manager since Southgate left, will continue to lead the national team during this year's two remaining Nations League matches, away against Greece on November 14 and at home against Ireland three days later.
