Christian Sonesson (The Moderate Party), municipal councilor in Staffanstorp, believes that the state's accountability committee should review the matter.

I don't think there is acceptance among people that you can mismanage your assignment and still keep your high salary for five years to come, says Sonesson to TV4.

Even Malin Björk, spokesperson on constitutional issues for the Center Party, is critical.

The government believes that it is following the law on public employment, but that the rules for transferring county governors and general directors to the government offices should be analyzed.

We have a number of labor law regulations in Sweden, and one can and should discuss how they look. But they are what they are right now, and then the terms apply, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to Sveriges Radio.

Civil Minister Erik Slottner (Christian Democrats) agrees.

"I agree with the Prime Minister's statement that the government should analyze the regulatory framework governing the transfer of agency heads to government offices", he writes in a statement and continues:

"I can understand that the current order is perceived as disturbing, but county governors are also covered by employment protection. This has been handled according to all the rules."

Kinberg Batra was fired after harsh criticism from the Parliamentary Ombudsman regarding three disputed recruitments she made as county governor. She is instead placed at the government offices, with other tasks but with her monthly salary of 122,400 kronor maintained until February 2029. Then her appointment as county governor expires.
