Both Georgia and the Czech Republic came into the afternoon's European Championship match between the countries without a point.

Then it was a shared spoils after 1–1.

The point is Georgia's first ever in a championship.

It was Georgia who took the lead in the match, when Georges Mikautadze scored a secure penalty in added time in the first half.

The penalty came after a VAR check where it was clearly seen that the ball hit the arm of the unfortunate Robin Hranac. The centre-back also scored an own goal in the match against Portugal.

In the second half, the Czech Republic could equalise, when Patrik Schick ran in the rebound on Ondrej Lingr's header in a real goal-poacher manner.

Missed a giant opportunity

The Czech Republic pushed for a leading goal, but failed to get the ball in.

Instead, it was extremely close to Georgia converting a historic point to three. In the last minute of the match, Georgia got a giant opportunity, when they had a three-on-one counter-attack. Substitute Saba Lobjanidze was played through, but shot the ball over the crossbar. Instead, the match ended 1–1, and Georgia "had to settle" for a point.

Historic goal-scorer – and injury worry

It was even heavier for Georgia that the team's big star, Chvitja Kvaratschelia, limped off the pitch in the 82nd minute.

Also, the Czech star Patrik Schick, who with today's goal became historic as the Czech Republic's top European Championship goal-scorer of all time, had to leave injured. He now stands at six goals in European Championship contexts.

The point means that Georgia has now taken its first championship point. The country is participating in its first championship ever.

Both teams now have one point after two group stage matches. Group F's top two teams, Portugal and Turkey, meet later on Saturday at 18:00.
