Biden has been hammering home the message that he doesn't intend to step aside and has emphasized that he has the strength to beat Donald Trump in the election.
But the pressure on Biden has continued to increase after the disastrous debate performance. Five Democratic representatives in the House of Representatives have publicly demanded that the President step aside.
American media reports claim that a group of senators are also trying to gather support to ask Biden to abandon his candidacy. Leading Democrats in the House of Representatives are expected to hold a remote meeting on Sunday to discuss the situation.
If Biden were to decide to step aside, it is likely that he would appoint Vice President Kamala Harris as the party's presidential candidate, predicts Josh Green.
