The cross-voting battle within the Liberals to snatch the party's only mandate in the European Championship continues.

Even within the SD, a candidate can cross-vote their way in.

With half of the electoral districts counted, the top name on the Liberals' list, Karin Karlsbro, is narrowly leading over the second, Anna Maria Corazza Bildt.

At the time of writing, Karlsbro has 13,940 votes against Bildt's 13,412. With nearly half of the 6,589 electoral districts still to be counted for a final result, the Election Authority is expected to be finished and the result confirmed by the County Administrative Board on Friday.

To succeed in getting in through cross-voting, a candidate needs to receive at least 5 per cent of the party's votes, which Corazza now appears to have achieved.

A thrilling count of cross-votes is also underway in the Sweden Democrats, where the fifteenth name on the list, Maria Rosander, can cross-vote her way in to one of the SD's three mandates. List leader Charlie Weimers is unchallenged, but Rosander currently has 12,526 votes, more than the second, Beatrice Timgren, and Dick Erixon.

She must also reach 5 per cent of the SD's votes to snatch a seat, which is more uncertain. If she succeeds, she will push out Erixon, assuming he does not cross-vote his way in as well.

It's clear that it feels a bit strange to end up in this situation. But it's part of the democratic process, says Rosander to Expressen.
