The high jumper Maja Nilsson is ending her career – at just 24 years old.

Persistent knee problems are the reason.

"I have had problems with my knee since 2021 and I have struggled with it since then. It has not become as good as I had hoped it would become and now the air has gone out of me a bit", she says according to a press release.

Her last competition was the Swedish Championship in Uddevalla where the Örgryte jumper took gold.

Maja Nilsson had hoped to end her career with the Olympic Games in Paris, but was never selected and was critical of the unclear selection criteria.

In the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021, she reached the final.

"I have got to experience all the championships, the European Championship, the World Championship and the Olympic Games. I have got to jump so many fun competitions, got to travel around and met so many people that I will have contact with for the rest of my life", she says.
