Iran's former Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who among other things negotiated the international nuclear energy agreement in 2015, has resigned from his new post as Vice President.
He left the service last week, he writes on X, less than two weeks after the newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed him as his Vice.
Zarif gives several reasons for his resignation, including disappointment over the names proposed to become ministers in the government. The list published on Sunday has been criticized by some of the country's reformist camp.
"I am ashamed that I could not implement, in a decent manner, the expert committees' opinions and achieve inclusion of women, young people, and ethnic groups, as I had promised," writes Zarif on X.
