Olympic Games debutant Vanessa Kamga shone at Stade de France. She advanced to the final – and set a Swedish record. Good Lord, she says after 65.14 meters.

To reach the final on Monday, throws over 64 meters or being among the 12 best of the 30 throwers in the qualifying round were required.

Vanesa Kamga focused on the first.

And the 25-year-old only needed one throw to cross the qualifying limit.

Moreover, she set a Swedish record.

I had trouble seeing where the discus landed, so I stood aside and saw the figure. Then I thought: I don't think I've done longer than that, she says.

With 65.14, she improved her previous record from earlier this summer by five centimeters.

The plan for the final, which will be decided at the same time as pole vaulter Armand Duplantis is expected to jump for gold, is the same as always.

Throw as far as she can.

I do my competition and prepare myself as if I were competing anywhere, she says.

The foundation in me is that I want to throw far. As far as I can and that feeling has no stop.
