A 53-year-old man who was on trial suspected of murdering a woman in Borlänge is acquitted by the Falu District Court.

The 38-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment in central Borlänge on March 15. The prosecutor has claimed that the man killed her through strangulation.

The man admits to having grabbed the woman's throat, but claims that it was a self-defense situation since the woman, according to him, attacked him with a wallpaper knife.

According to the court, however, it has not been proven that the man intentionally took such a firm grip that he should have understood that she could die. Nor has it been clarified that the grip was the cause of death, as the forensic pathologist could not rule out an alternative cause of death. The woman had such high levels of alcohol and medication in her body that they could be fatal in themselves, writes the Falu District Court in its verdict.

The man is, however, sentenced to fines for threats against a public official.
