It was in February this year that an ambulance and police were alerted to an address in Kungälv, after the now convicted man himself had called and told them what had happened.
On the scene, the woman was found dead and the man was arrested on the spot. He has since previously admitted to causing another person's death, but not murder, his intention was not to kill the woman.
In the verdict, the unanimous court writes that the act does not seem to have been planned, but the assessment is that the man had the intention to kill at the time of the act.
The investigation contains information about threats and violence in the relationship. The woman had also been in contact with a women's shelter that offers protected housing and support for women exposed to violence.
"The district court assesses as aggravating circumstances that the crime was directed against a close female relative who had difficulty defending herself and that it took place in the previously shared home," the district court writes in a press release.
The man is also convicted of unlawful threats against an acquaintance. He is to pay 110,000 kronor in damages each to the murdered woman's two children and 8,000 kronor to the person who was subjected to the unlawful threat.
