Billionaires must pay their share

There was a strong focus on the economy when Kamilla Harris, the US Vice President, stood up for her first major interview on her own since she became the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. Donald Trump has a history of taking care of the rich, she says in the interview with MSNBC.

Opinion polls show that the economy is one of the most important issues for many American voters – which Kamala Harris took advantage of. Trump would "invite a recession" by the middle of 2025 if he wins, she says in the interview according to BBC.

She also claims that Trump advocates for tax cuts for billionaires and large corporations. Herself, she plans to raise corporate tax if she becomes president, to finance her proposals for cheaper childcare and housing.

I have nothing against the rich, but they should pay their fair share, she says.

"Trump not serious"

My perspective is that when you get the middle class to grow, the US economy becomes stronger.

She also criticized Trump's promise to introduce import tariffs on foreign goods and called it a "sales tax on the American people".

You don't just throw around ideas about tariffs. He is not particularly serious, said Harris about her rival.

Trump proposed in the debate against Harris earlier in September a tariff of ten percent on all imported goods, and 60 percent on goods from China.

First major interview

The interview, which was broadcast on the Harris-leaning TV channel MSNBC, was the first she had done on her own with a nationwide news channel. Republicans have criticized her for avoiding interviews to avoid answering questions.

Earlier, she has, among other things, appeared in an interview on CNN together with her vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, and in her own interviews in some local media.

In the interview, the vice president again criticized Trump for ensuring that congressional Republicans voted against a bill on strengthened border security in the spring. If she is elected, she promises to return with the proposal.

We have a broken immigration system that must be fixed, she said in the interview.
