A score of people have been killed in a terrorist attack in northeastern Nigeria, when a bomb exploded in a teahouse. Dozens more were injured in the attack in the state of Borno, which has long been exposed to violence from Islamist extremist groups.

In recent times, the conflict has subsided and the number of terrorist acts has decreased – the attack on Wednesday evening therefore raises concerns about a new wave of unrest and acts directed against civilians.

Information about the attack comes from a regional militia group that combats Islamist, militant groups, and which in turn closely collaborates with government forces.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in the town of Kawuri. The terrorist groups Boko Haram and IS in West Africa are still considered active in the region.

The governor of Borno issued a 24-hour curfew after the attack.
