The music star and actress Mitzi Gaynor has passed away, writes The Wrap. She starred in several musical films during the 1950s, Hollywood's golden age of musicals.
Among other things, she had a role in the film "There's no business like show business" alongside Marilyn Monroe and Ethel Merman. She starred alongside stars such as Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly and got her biggest role in "South Pacific" in 1958, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.
Mitzi Gaynor was born as Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von Gerber in 1931 in Chicago. Her father was a classically trained musician with roots in Hungary and her mother was a dancer. Mitzi Gaynor took dance lessons early on and signed a contract with 20th Century Fox at the age of 17.
She continued to participate in TV and had several of her own special programs where she charmed the audience with song and dance – the last one was broadcast in 2008. She was nominated for a total of 16 Emmys.
Gaynor married talent scout Jack Bean in 1954, who also became her manager. They were married until his death in 2006. Mitzi Gaynor was 93 years old.
