Armand Duplantis did as many times before and won the Diamond League competition in Stockholm. He then tried the world record height of 6.25 – and had three good attempts.

The Swedish pole vault star was the only one who cleared six meters and thus became the winner since the American Sam Kendricks failed on all his attempts at that height.

The 24-year-old announced after the win that he would try to improve his own world record by one centimeter to 6.25.

On the first attempt at 6.26, Duplantis was close, but pulled the bar back on the way down. The second attempt failed for Armand with even smaller margin.

The tension was thus great when he got ready for the third. But even that was a failure, despite very good attempts from Duplantis.

In the past, "Mondo" has said that he would most like to break his world record at home in Stockholm. His best result in the Swedish capital is 6.16 meters.

Pole vaulter's latest world record, 6.24 meters, was set by him in the Diamond League premiere in Xiamen, China.

His next competition is the European Championships in Rome, which starts on Thursday.

It is not entirely clear that there will be an attempt at the world record even then.

Later in the summer, he will go to the Olympics in Paris as the reigning champion.
