It has been known for some time that SVT, via the European Broadcasting Union EBU, has secured the so-called free-TV rights to the Olympic Games from the winter of 2026 – and now it is clear that TV4 has purchased part of the rights and that the channels will broadcast the games together.
This will be the first time ever that TV4 shows the Olympic Games.
"This is a milestone for us. The Olympic Games are a strong addition to our sports portfolio. TV4 gathers Sweden and the Olympic Games are one of the events that interest most Swedes," says Johan Cederqvist, sports director at TV4, in a press release.
According to Aftonbladet, SVT and TV4 have, via free-TV rights, the right to broadcast 200 hours from the Summer Olympic Games and 100 hours from the Winter Olympic Games. Max/Discovery still owns the pay-TV rights.
The agreement between TV4 and SVT extends from the Olympic Games in Milano/Cortina 2026 to the games in Brisbane 2032.
SVT and TV4 have, for a long time, jointly broadcast several major football championships on the men's side.
