On August 7, it's time for the men's high jump in the Olympics. But then, Polish Norbert Kobielski will not be present.
The 27-year-old has indeed tested positive for doping and is banned for an indefinite period. This is announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the organization that judges athletics doping cases.
The substance that Kobielski has taken is called pentedron norefedrinmetabolit. Two of the effects that the substance can give are increased heart rate and reduced fatigue.
The Pole finished in a shared sixth place at the European Championship in Rome earlier this summer and has also taken a U23 European Championship bronze. He has also finished eighth at the indoor World Championship.
Thus, the summer's Olympics have been shaken by the first doping case, already before the championship has begun.
