Spotify has removed several Russian artists' music and profiles from the platform, reports Billboard.

This concerns artists who have supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine and have been under EU sanctions.

A spokesperson for Spotify refers to the platform's rules in a statement to Billboard.

"We take action when we identify content that violates our content policies or local laws," the spokesperson writes and continues:

"Upon closer examination, it turned out that these artists met the criteria for removal."

Artists such as Grigorij Leps, Oleg Gazmanov, Shaman, and Polina Gagarina have been removed from the platform, reports Moscow Times with reference to Telegram.

In April, Dagens ETC reported that four Russian artists who were on the EU's sanctions list were available on Spotify, including Grigorij Leps and Oleg Gazmanov. The same day, the music giant announced that the artists would be removed from the service.
