The average prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.4 percent in July compared to June this year, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the SCB.
"Prices of both food and non-alcoholic beverages tend to increase in July compared to June. If we compare with prices a year ago, prices of food increased by 0.7 percent and prices of non-alcoholic beverages by 4.3 percent in July," says Carl Mårtensson, price statistician at the SCB in a press release.
Prices rose the most for coffee, tea, and cocoa, which increased by 7.8 percent, and vegetables, whose prices rose by 2.5 percent compared to the previous month.
When looking at individual products, mango and avocado stand out with a price increase of 18 percent in July compared to June.
Potato prices also increased by 17 percent during the same period, and since July last year, prices have increased by 36 percent.
"It's remarkable. Potato prices can vary greatly between different years, but such a large price increase between two years we have only seen once before in the statistics," says Carl Mårtensson.
