Only one in three municipalities has a sports policy program and just as few have a local supply plan. This is shown by a survey conducted by the Swedish Sports Confederation, which was sent to Sweden's municipalities. Only one in four municipalities mentions sports in their comprehensive plan in more than just a few words.
It is very worrying that so few municipalities have visions and include sports halls and sports areas in their planning, says the Swedish Sports Confederation's chairperson Anna Iwarsson in a press release.
In a debate article in Aftonbladet, Anna Iwarsson writes that due to urbanization, land has become a scarce resource and areas for sports have not been prioritized. The Swedish Sports Confederation is now inviting municipalities to discuss the situation.
