Brazil has got a shaky start to the South American Championship.

The top nation took a point from the premiere against Costa Rica, after 0–0.

After 1–1 in the dress rehearsal against the USA, the national team has received strong criticism from both experts and supporters.

In the premiere, they clearly got water on their mill.

A weak Brazil started their premiere in the South American Championship with a draw against Costa Rica, 0–0.

Brazil, in pursuit of their tenth title in the championship, dominated the game but failed to break down the opponent's defence despite that. The Brazilians cheered in the 30th minute when Marquinhos via the post sent the ball into the goal – but the joy was short-lived.

After a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to offside, and it didn't get any better than that.

Despite Brazil having 73.5 per cent ball possession, they only managed to muster three shots on goal. Costa Rica did what they had to, played defensively and rarely ventured forward with any real purpose.

Meanwhile, Colombia won their match against Paraguay, which means they lead the group.

In the next round, Brazil will face Paraguay, before they conclude the group stage against Colombia.
