Stricter baggage rules at Arlanda again

Now the opportunity to bring large bottles with liquids through the security check at Arlanda Airport's Terminal 5 is being stopped again. Now the rules are back to a maximum of 100 ml per bottle.

From September, the EU Commission is introducing new rules regarding liquid controls at EU airports. These rules will affect, among other things, Terminal 5 at Arlanda and the airport in Sälen.

Last summer, a new security control with the latest technology was introduced at Arlanda's Terminal 5 – where you could bring larger bottles than 100 ml.

Previously, it has been possible to have larger volumes with you in your luggage, says Andreas Holmgren, unit manager at the Transport Agency.

The liquid did not need to be placed in a resealable bag or removed from your bag at security control.

"Want to refine"

But from September 1, you will only be able to bring 100 ml per bottle – again.

The restriction is being introduced to improve the scanning equipment, says Andreas Holmgren.

They want to refine it, and during that time, they are introducing a restriction on the size of liquid containers.

However, there is no limit to the number of bottles a passenger can bring. Liquid containers can still be left in hand luggage and do not need to be placed in a special bag. The same applies to electronics.

Temporary rules

The restriction is only temporary, but it is not known how long it will apply.

We are working on finding a solution that we can return to as it was before. But when and how long, we cannot really answer, says Andreas Holmgren.

Other terminals at Arlanda, as well as the remaining airports, are not affected by the change. There, the 100 ml per bottle restriction already applies.
