In Uddevalla municipality, students who do not eat pork for religious reasons are now forced to settle for the vegetarian alternative on days when pork is on the menu. This has led to a number of complaints to the Discrimination Ombudsman (DO), reports P4 Väst.
We have so far received eight complaints, says Claes Lundstedt, press chief at DO, to the radio.
It is not clear whether DO will take up the matter at all.
Two complaints come from guardians and six from students who feel discriminated against by the municipality's new food policy. The focus is on Swedish home cooking, while the extra meat alternative for students who do not eat pork is being abolished.
The DO will review the complaints to determine whether there are grounds for supervision.
First, we need to take a stand on whether this is an issue covered by the Discrimination Act. Other factors are whether we can see if there is discrimination or serious infringement, says Lundstedt.
