A 17-year-old boy from Sweden has been detained for four weeks in Denmark, suspected of attempted murder after a shooting in Kolding on Wednesday, reports Danmarks Radio.

During the detention hearing on Thursday, it emerged that a person was hit by at least three shots in the legs in connection with the incident. The boy has confessed to the crime, but the police are searching for another man who they believe is involved.

Just a few hours earlier, another Swedish boy, 16 years old, was detained for a shooting on Blågårds Plads on Nørrebro in Copenhagen, also on Wednesday. He is suspected of weapons possession and attempted murder of an unidentified person, according to Ritzau. No one was injured in connection with the incident, and the boy denies the crime.

Recruited on social media

According to the Danish police, young Swedes are being recruited on social media to commit crimes for payment in the country.

We have seen that criminals are seeking out people on social media who are willing to commit serious crimes, and that young Swedes unfortunately take on the task for payment, says police chief Torben Svarrer at Denmark's National Unit against Special Criminality (NSK) to TT.

This is something that we naturally take very seriously.

The Danish police believe that there is cooperation between Swedish and Danish gang criminals, but so far, they have not seen signs of Swedish gangs establishing themselves in Denmark.

Close cooperation

The Danish and Swedish police have a close cooperation and exchange information daily. Torben Svarrer says that this has enabled them to prevent several crimes.

I want to strongly warn that as a young person, you should not think that you can avoid a harsh punishment for serious crimes because of your young age. That is not the case, says Svarrer.

In mid-June, two other Swedish teenage boys were detained for attempted murder outside Copenhagen.
