Sprinter Henrik Larsson finished fourth in the EM final on the 100-meter track at the Olympic Stadium in Rome with a time of 10.16.

The Swedish Athletics Federation filed a protest, which was rejected. However, Sweden has appealed to the competition jury.

The protest was filed because Italian Chituru Ali, who took silver, was given a warning for moving in the starting blocks, but Sweden believes it's a "clear" false start and Ali should be disqualified, according to the federation.

Larsson says the Italian did not look happy after crossing the finish line.

His evening in Rome was chaotic from the start. In the semifinals, he managed to run around 70 meters before stopping for a false start shot. His heat, the first one, then had to run after the other two.

The problem was that Larsson and the others who advanced to the final got shorter recovery time between the semifinals and the final.

Italian Marcell Jacobs took his second consecutive EM gold in 10.02. British Romell Glave snatched bronze in 10.06.

This was the first time in 50 years that a Swede reached the EM final in the 100-meter event.

Larsson is chasing an Olympic spot and needs to run more laps under 10.12 to get an Olympic ticket from Sweden's Olympic Committee.

He will therefore not run the 200-meter event in the EM, which was initially planned.

He has a few more competitions to arrange his Olympic ticket. In the EM, he ran 10.14 in the semifinals and 10.16 in the finals.
