Do you think your child has unusually prolonged colds? Coughing that doesn't subside and wheezing that never ends despite summer being here? The cold spring may be one of the explanations.

In Sweden, respiratory and lung viruses are always more widespread in the winter than in the summer.

But why do prolonged colds and coughing not subside? Jonas F Ludvigsson, pediatrician in Örebro, Professor at Karolinska Institute, explains:

Seasonal flu often comes from Asia and arrives in Sweden during the winter. During the colder season, viruses also spread faster since children are mainly indoors and closer to each other – which facilitates the spread of infection.

But even the pandemic continues to affect our disease patterns, according to Jonas F Ludvigsson.

Did the pandemic make us more sensitive to infections?

What should one do to avoid sick children now that summer vacation is starting?
