In three weeks, starting on July 8, the Coast Guard will conduct a national campaign against boating under the influence.
This means increased sobriety checks at sea, both randomly and when there is indication of intoxication. Random sobriety checks will primarily target larger recreational vessels over 12x4 meters.
In Sweden, the same blood-alcohol limit applies at sea as on land: 0.2 per mille alcohol in the blood. It's not just the driver who can be convicted, but also others on board with critical safety responsibilities. The limit does not apply to all vessels.
The campaign is annual and previous statistics show that 3-4 percent of those checked by the Coast Guard are reported for boating under the influence.
