The power outage occurred on Friday morning local time, but according to AFP's correspondents on site in the country, the power grid began to function again in parts of the capital Caracas and the states of Tachira and Merida by the afternoon.
President Nicolás Maduro stated in a TV broadcast on Friday that the situation is being "normalized", but did not mention any details regarding how many people have had their power restored.
Venezuela has over 30 million inhabitants. In addition to 23 states and the capital region of Caracas, the country also consists of islands in the Caribbean Sea.
During a period of political unrest in 2019, Venezuela was affected by regular power outages, which the government often blamed on its opponents, but which according to experts were due to, among other things, poor maintenance.
Many of the energy problems have decreased as the country's economy has stabilized, with a reduced shortage of goods and a decrease in high inflation.
