The Social Democrats want to invest in rural areas

The Social Democrats propose a package of measures to support rural and sparsely populated areas. The government is wasting billions on rich people in big cities, says spokesperson Anna-Caren Sätherberg.

The package of measures is part of the S budget motion, which will be presented in its entirety later in the week. Among the seven proposals, the so-called fuel rebate, which S previously launched, stands out.

The fuel rebate can provide up to 2,000 kronor per household, depending on where in the country you live.

In sparsely populated areas with long distances to work, services, youth training, and where public transportation is not an alternative, we propose 1,000 kronor per car, while those living in metropolitan areas will receive 20 percent of that amount, says Sätherberg.

S simultaneously rejects the government's proposed tax cuts on fuel.

We think the fuel rebate is more effective.

S also proposes increased support to farmers in northern Sweden, 60 million more than the government, as well as 300 million in grants to small municipalities with major challenges.

In addition, they want to invest more than the government in basic services, such as gas stations, and state service centers. S also proposes 500 million kronor more for neglected hiking trails and nature protection.
