This is the stock tip you shouldn't follow

The old Swedish stock exchange rule "Buy at the herring, sell at the crabs" worked poorly again this year. The American rule is better, says Frida Bratt from Nordnet.

According to the old Swedish stock tip - you would have bought shares in June and sold them now.

But that advice worked poorly this year, according to economist Frida Bratt at Nordnet.

Totally, it has been a weak summer. It is primarily August that has been really shaky, in connection with the crash.

Sell the shares in May

The Stockholm Stock Exchange fell 3.2 percent from Midsummer to August 7 this year, which was the official crayfish premiere. And according to Frida Bratt - this advice is outdated.

I think it fits worse and worse, actually. Maybe it fit better when the Swedish stock market was not too global, she says.

The mood on the Swedish stock market follows the American one to a very high extent nowadays.

In the USA, they recommend selling shares during the summer and coming back in the fall. Or as they say: "Sell in May and go away”.

And this tip works better, Frida Bratt believes.

This year, it would have worked better than the Swedish expression. But this is not something that private savers should change their investments after, I think. You should take it with a pinch of salt.

Ongoing concern

She adds that you should base your decision on when you want to use the money instead.

Go by when you will use the money, how long-term you are, and how comfortable you are with the share portion you have. That's what should decide, rather than this.

If it's a buying opportunity on the stock market, it's impossible to answer, according to Frida Bratt. But she adds that you must be prepared for it to continue to be turbulent on the stock market going forward.

There is a cloud of concern around the American economy and around the tech giants. But if you are long-term on the stock market, you'll manage even if it's a few more weeks of concern.
