The week is poor on new TV series but has several major film premieres – not least Kevin Costner's epic western.

FILM (première: 28/6).

"Horizon: An American saga chapter 1"

2024 is the year when Hollywood's old elephants take big risks with their own money to finance passion-driven projects. Francis Ford Coppola's watershed "Megalopolis" gets a premiere later this year, but already now comes the first chapter (of planned four) in Kevin Costner's western epic "Horizon: An American saga". Costner has directed westerns before in "Dances with Wolves" and "Open Range", but this time it has cost a whopping 400 million kronor of his own money. Part one (which is over three hours long) has received lukewarm reviews and attracted few visitors to cinemas in the USA. But who has said that critics and the public always have the right?

"Kinds of kindness"

Barely has the frenzy after the major success "Poor things" died down before the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos is back with a new arthouse film. Again with Oscar winner Emma Stone in one of the leading roles. The three-part "Kinds of kindness" has been described as darker and more misanthropic than usual. Possibly a return to the bleakness of Lanthimos' debut "Dogtooth".

"A quiet place: Day one"

The sound-sensitive insect monsters from the film series "A quiet place" get an origin story with a prequel. The action takes place on the first day when humanity confronts the threat that made the earth go silent. This time with the always excellent Lupita Nyong'o in one of the leading roles.

"Fancy dance" (Apple Tv+)

Lily Gladstone from "Killers of the Flower Moon" plays the lead role in a highly praised drama that takes place in one of America's Native American reservations and portrays a woman searching for her missing little sister. After the premiere in Sundance, many critics have hailed debut director Erica Tremblay as a great talent to keep an eye on.

TV/STREAMING

"Sprint" (2/7 Netflix)

Documentary series about "the world's fastest humans" and their journey to the OS in Paris 2024. Featuring, among others, Sha'Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, and Shericka Jackson. Behind the production is the same team that made the Formula 1 documentary "Drive to survive".
