Polish world number one Iga Swiatek is out of the Wimbledon tennis tournament already in the third round of the women's singles.
Swiatek lost a 1–0 lead in sets and lost the three-setter against 35th-ranked Kazakh Yulia Putintseva with set scores 6–3, 1–6, 2–6.
Putintseva thanked the audience on court 1 after the match.
I have no words, I'm so happy that I played so well, you gave me life after the first set, she says in the victory interview on Eurosport and continues:
This is crazy, listen. There has been an amazing energy today, which I felt on the court. I tried to entertain you with my shots.
The 23-year-old, who won the French Championships for the third year in a row a month ago, thus continues to struggle on grass outside London. In five Wimbledon tournaments, she has never made it further than the quarterfinals in the Grand Slam tournament.
Yulia Putintseva will next face Jelena Ostapenko, Latvia, in the fourth round.
Another favorite to fall in the women's singles on Saturday was Tunisian Ons Jabeur, ninth in the world rankings, who lost to 21st-ranked Ukrainian Elina Svitolina with set scores 1–6, 6–7 (4–7).
