The Norwegian actress Henny Moan has passed away after a short illness, according to her family.
Moan was part of the very first graduating class from the Norwegian Theatre Academy in the 1950s and broke through with the war film "Nine Lives" in 1957 and the horror film "The Lake of the Dead" the following year – two of the Norwegian film history's classics.
The latter was written by André Bjerke, who later became Moan's husband. In the 1970s, she became a household name through a series of roles in Henrik Ibsen dramas on NRK and simultaneously performed in many productions at the National Theatre and the Norwegian Theatre.
Later, she played roles in, among others, Liv Ullmann's film adaptation of "Kristin Lavransdotter" in 1995 and in Ella Lemhagen's "Tur & retur" in 2003.
She is one of the truly great actresses in Norwegian theatre history and a unique artist, says former Minister of Culture Ellen Horn (Labour Party) to NRK.
Henny Moan was 88 years old.
