Blinken: Iran is sending more weapons to Russia

Iran has sent ballistic missiles to Russia – weapons that will likely be used against Ukraine within the next few weeks, says US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a visit to London.

Dozens of Russian military personnel have been trained in Iran to use these drones, according to Blinken. The USA has previously warned Iran that arms deliveries to Russia could lead to a dramatic escalation.

Iran's new president and foreign minister have repeatedly stated that they want to resume relations with Europe to get relief from the sanctions. Destabilizing measures like these will achieve the exact opposite, says Blinken.

Shortly after the press conference, Germany, France, and the UK announced new sanctions targeting Iran's air transport sector.

The countries jointly announced that they will "take immediate action to terminate bilateral air transport agreements with Iran" and "work to impose sanctions on Iran Air".

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy will travel to Ukraine's capital Kiev together, to meet with the country's president Volodomyr Zelenskyj.

Russia has, during the large-scale war, sent attack drones of Iranian model against Ukraine almost daily, occasionally in larger swarms.
