F1 star writes history: "Big"

During the weekend, F1-legend Fernando Alonso will make history. When the start of the Mexican GP takes place, he will make his 400th F1-race – something no one else has managed to do before. A proof of how much I love this lifestyle, says the Spaniard to the podcast "Beyond The Grid".

Aston Martin's season in the F1 carousel has been mediocre. A fifth place in the constructors' championship, and constantly in the middle of the field.

Therefore, there have not been many reasons to celebrate. Until now.

During the weekend, the Mexican GP will be decided, and for one of the team's drivers, Fernando Alonso, it will be anything but a regular race weekend.

When the lights go out at the "Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez" in Mexico City, the Spaniard will make history. The 43-year-old will then make his 400th start in his career, which no other driver has ever achieved.

Reaching 400 now is big, he says to the podcast "Beyond The Grid" and continues:

I know that no one has managed to do this before me. Maybe someone will do it in the future, but not many. Maybe five or ten drivers. This just shows my love for racing and for Formula 1. It's proof of how much I love this lifestyle.

Second on the list is Kimi Räikkönen with 353 starts, while Lewis Hamilton with 351 starts is the closest of the drivers who are still active.

Alonso began his career in the sport as a teenager, in the Minardi team, in 2001. Since then, it has been 22 seasons, during which he has won two World Championship titles in 2005 and 2006.

This year, Alonso has scraped together 62 points and is ninth in the drivers' standings. His teammate Lance Stroll has only managed to collect 24 points.
