Violent clashes are raging in Sudan's capital Khartum between the Sudanese army and the militia group RSF, according to an army source. Fighter jets have bombed parts of the capital controlled by the paramilitary force.
Government forces are said to have crossed two bridges over the Nile, which separates areas controlled by the respective factions. The offensive is the army's first major one in several months.
The civil war in Sudan broke out in the spring of 2023 between the army and RSF, which originated from a militia that participated in the genocide in Darfur. Since then, large parts of the country have been paralyzed, famine has broken out, and over 13 million people have been forced to leave their homes in what has been described as the world's largest refugee crisis.
