The Swedish Oscar Committee has now selected three candidates that can become Sweden's contribution to an Oscar for Best International Film.

"The Last Journey" follows Lars Hammar, who after 40 years as a beloved French teacher in Köping retires. When he becomes passive and will-less, his son Filip and best friend Fredrik take Lars to his beloved France to rekindle the spark of life.

The film had its premiere in March this year and was by the end of the spring the most viewed Swedish documentary ever.

Levan Akin's "Passage" is about a Georgian woman who has promised to find her sister's daughter in Istanbul. The film has, among other things, received the Teddy Jury Award at the film festival in Berlin.

Axel Petersén's "The Scapegoat" takes place on Malta, where a lottery swindler suddenly appears at his former friend's wedding, which becomes the start of a desperate and decadent search for reconciliation. The film was awarded seven Guldbaggar at this year's gala.

The final Oscar contribution will be presented on September 19. The Oscar gala will take place on March 3, 2025.
