The imitator, a 63-year-old Frenchman, is also on trial in the ongoing court case in southern French Avignon. He is accused of drugging and raping his own wife on instructions from Pélicot.

The man got to know Dominique Pélicot online. The older of the two men then taught the younger how to drug and rape his wife, according to the method used by Pélicot against his own wife.
Dominique Pélicot is said to have provided the 63-year-old with sedatives before the rapes and is also said to have participated in the assaults on the man's wife on ten different occasions.
In total, 51 men are on trial in the ongoing court case in Avignon, which mainly concerns rapes committed against the now 72-year-old Gisèle Pélicot. Several of the defendants risk 20 years in prison for aggravated rape.
