Jannik Sinner defeated American Taylor Fritz with 3–0 in sets.
The world number one is almost unbeatable on hardcourt – has after the final victory in the US Open 35 wins and only two losses on the surface this year.
The Italian also won this year's first Grand Slam tournament on hardcourt, the Australian Open, and three more tournaments on the same surface.
Among others, Taylor Swift, Elon Musk, and Henrik Lundqvist watched as the 23-year-old won the first set against Taylor Fritz with 6–3, the second set with 6–4, and the third set with 7–5 after two hours and 14 minutes of play.
The Break Gave Hope
The home hope at Flushing Meadows outside New York had lost only nine serve games in his six first matches in the tournament and hoped to be the first American to win a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick, who won the US Open in 2003.
But Fritz didn't have much to set against Sinner, even though a break in the third set gave the home crowd hope for a turnaround in the match. But Sinner broke back a little later and could then take home the match and the title through 7–5 in the third set.

Acquitted of Doping
Jannik Sinner was not at all sure of his form before the tournament, mainly due to the fact that he just before the start of the US Open got caught up in a doping debate. It turned out that he had tested positive for the banned steroid clostebol, but was acquitted. The explanation was that his physiotherapist had used a cream for an injury and transferred the banned substance to Sinner through massage.
The doping case led to an infected debate that of course affected the world number one. For that reason, the victory meant a lot to Sinner, who had also been worried about his sick relative.

I love tennis, but you have to think about your life outside. I dedicate this title to my aunt. I don't know how long I'll have her left in my life, she's an important person for me, he says, visibly moved.
