"We are worried about the development and the violence. Our local team in Bangladesh is closely following the situation, but at present, we do not have any further comments to share", writes Marcus Hagström from the company's press department in an email to TT.

Bangladesh is, according to Dagens industri, the largest subcontractor country for H&M.

Sweden's ambassador in Bangladesh, Alexandra Berg von Linde, states in P1 Morgon that around 50 Swedish companies operate in the country. They are mainly active in the fashion and textile industry.

Trade, export, customs, logistics – all of that has been affected by the protests, also for Swedish companies, she says to the radio.

It's a very volatile and unpredictable situation right now.

The textile factories in the country are closed on Tuesday, according to a representative for the textile industry for Reuters. On Sunday, four factories were set on fire.

Bangladesh has been shaken by widespread protests for several weeks, which on Monday resulted in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning and fleeing the country. At least 409 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured in connection with the protests.
