A multi-ill patient in Region Västerbotten became malnourished after the hospital failed to follow its routines for nutrition intake, reports Västerbottens-Kuriren.

The incident has been reported to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) under the Lex Maria regulations.

It was after an operation that the staff noticed the patient was eating poorly. Despite this, the nutrition routines were not followed either before or after the patient's hospital stay.

When the patient returned to the hospital a few days later, it was discovered that they were malnourished and had to be readmitted for further care.

The incident has been investigated by Region Västerbotten, which has now taken measures to reduce the risk of repetition.
