Israel's military acknowledges that it is highly likely that its soldiers mistakenly shot and killed an American-Turkish activist last week. The shots were fired on Friday in connection with a protest against illegal settlements outside the city of Beita on the West Bank, where both Palestinians and foreigners participated.

An investigation has found it highly likely that the activist was shot "indirectly and unintentionally", according to a statement from Israel's military IDF.

The activist, 26-year-old Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, was born in Turkey and held both American and Turkish citizenship.

Turkey has condemned her death. The UN and the US have demanded a full investigation into the circumstances and that those responsible be held accountable.

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that Israel's military must make fundamental changes in light of what happened. He calls the fatal shooting "both unprovoked and unjustified".
