The former Italian football star Roberto Baggio has been robbed in his home. It was on Thursday evening – at the same time as Italy played a European Championship match against Spain – that at least five robbers broke into Baggio's villa near Vicenza.
Baggio is said to have confronted the robbers, who responded by hitting him on the head with a pistol – and then locking him and his family in a room. They then stole jewellery, watches, and money.
After the robbers left the house, Baggio was able to get out and call the police. He was then taken to hospital and received treatment for the wound from the blow. His family members were not injured.
The 57-year-old Baggio had a long and successful football career and has played several championships for the Italian national team.
