"I feel incredibly motivated and eager to build on what we've started," says Bergqvist in a press release.
Kajsa Bergqvist became the national team captain three years ago and thinks it now feels like halfway.
In the Olympic Games in Paris, there was only one Swedish medal, Mondo Duplantis' gold in pole vault. And in the European Championship in Rome earlier this summer, the medal tally ended at three when the goal was six.
But that the big stars are still delivering while many younger athletes have taken big steps forward makes Bergqvist believe that the future looks bright for Swedish athletics.
"Swedish athletics will continue to deliver and the feeling is that there's even more to look forward to. We want to be in the mix and fight for top placings at every championship, and the goal is to get even more of that. It feels both realistic and inspiring at the same time," she says.
Next year, there's both the European Championship and the World Championship indoors in March, as well as the World Championship in Japan in September.
