Kristersson: "The Moderates are increasing again"

There was great jubilation at the Moderate Party's election watch when the election results made it clear that the party will be second largest. The polarising result in Europe and support for Ukraine is no given. Democracies are vulnerable, says the Prime Minister and Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson.

There was great jubilation at the Moderate Party's election headquarters when the election result made it clear that the party will be the second-largest. Whether the polarising result in Europe and support for Ukraine is anything is uncertain.

The party gets 17.6 per cent and four seats in the EU election, according to the preliminary result from the Election Authority, compared to 16.8 per cent for five years ago.

According to Kristersson, the Moderates are the only party that has managed to increase in the EU election, despite being in power at home, which is usually considered difficult.

He begins his speech to his supporters by solemnly stating that polarisation in the EU election in Europe is increasing.

He mentions the war in Ukraine, the climate, and crime.

If the election result in other EU countries says Kristersson, it is difficult to assess what effects it will have now that French President Emmanuel Macron has called a new election.

When asked if he is particularly worried that the election result in Europe could affect support for Ukraine, he replies:
